Journalistic And Otherwise
LEADERSHIP
Leadership is something I pride myself on. I am a natural born leader, and have a proclivity for rallying a group of people towards a common goal. I have extensive leadership training and experience. I am an alumni of the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership conference. I am the captain of the varsity swimming and sailing teams at Saint Joseph. As far as journalistic leadership goes, I am one of three seniors in the Broadcast program at Saint Joe, and I am the one who has been a part of the program the longest. The rest of the students in the program are in the eighth and ninth grades. I use my seniority and experience to guide the rest of the students and show them how things need to be done. I believe in leading by example and always make sure to be following my own advice.
EDITING
I am proficient at editing both audio and video files. Every episode of The Bruin buzz Live I produced was edited by me using WavePad. All of my news packages were also edited by me using FinalCut Pro. I have a knack for grammar, and even edit my own newspaper stories most of the time since the full time staff is only two people strong.
INTERVIEWING
I believe the most important part of all journalism is asking questions. Through my work with The Bruin Buzz Live and BNN Overtime, I have been able to hone my interviewing skills and ask questions that find out what people really want to know. I am outgoing, easy to talk to, and tactful during interviews which makes it easier and gives me an edge when asking questions.
PUBLIC SPEAKING
I have no fear of standing in front of a crowd and talking. I regularly lector at church, I announce the homecoming court every year in front of full stands, I frequently give presentations in class, I anchor the news, and I host a radio show. I have a strong voice, an air of confidence, and i enjoy large crowds.
LIVE STREAMING
I am more than competent when it comes to live streaming. Wirecast is my go-to software and I am very proficient. I live stream mass for Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, the varsity football games for Bruin Broadcasting Network, and the Bruin News Now Newscast when it goes live. (The live newscast in the portfolio section was produced by me).
ANCHORING
After several years of practice with Bruin News Now, I am a confident anchor. I can interact and have chemistry with almost any on-screen partner, and I also work well in a singe-anchor format. I can read sports or news with the same level of performance.
REPORTING
When I am not anchoring or producing I am usually covering a story. I am great on location. I have no problem inserting myself into the action to gather b roll and interviews with key subjects. I have covered two stories at the Mississippi State Capital Building. The first was on Tate Reeve's inauguration and the second was on the changes coming to the capital. During both, I was assertive and clever with shot angels and in-field interviewing questions.
